  • Un ruedo significa respeto y poder: pandillas y violencia en Bogotá Carlos Mario Perea Restrepo Multidisciplinarias (Ciencias Sociales) Youth gangs break the rules of collective life: they distance themselves from school, their family and the workplace as they get involved in drug activities, robbery and violence. Their distinctive characteristic is violent transgression. They split up the traditional categorization of violence. Gangs are not defined by economic gains but they are delinquent groups; they do not interfere directly in politics but they dominate the local public sphere; they do not have a strong discourse but they denounce social exclusion and the growing urban poverty. Thus, gangs are a kind of cultural violence: they build an identity in everyday life. In this search for respect and social recognition, they attract the armed national conflict to the poor urban neighborhoods by participating in ?cleaning operations?, in the militias, self-defense groups? and the police abuses. 2000 artículo científico 0303-7495 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=12629307 fr http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=126 Bulletin de l'Institut français d'études andines application/pdf Instituto Francés de Estudios Andinos Bulletin de l'Institut français d'études andines (Perú) Num.3 Vol.29
