This approach requires of a twosided oriented research: one dealing with the priest´s social relations in local society; another referring to the Archidiocese administrative structure. This is -in our opinion- a central question to understand the different posicions assumed by priests during the insurrectional context of the late 18th century. The analysis is centered in the carreers of two parish priests from the province of Chayanta: Gregorio de Merlos, accused of having been implied in the indigenous rebellion and Isidro de Herrera, killed up by his parishioners during this conflictive conjuncture.
