- Political Culture in the Hispanic Caribbean and the Buidling of US Hegemony, 1868-1945 Luis Martínez Fernández Estudios Culturales Cuba Puerto Rico political culture Dominican Republic Comparative studies Despite the seemingly endless possibilities for fruitful comparisons affordedby the Hispanic Caribbean, there exists a hardly justifiable dearthof comparative studies focusing on the region composed of Cuba, PuertoRico, and the Dominican Republic. This interpretative essay, based on theextant secondary literature on the individual islands, seeks to begin to fillthis void by tracing the trajectory of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the DominicanRepublicÕs political cultures from a regional and comparative perspective. While the case could be made for including other non-Hispaniccomponents of the Caribbean, this study recognizes the Spanish-speakingAntilles as a cultural region composed of societies sharing similarinsular geographies and historical backgrounds. The Hispanic Caribbeanregion, because of its common Spanish heritage and its persistent vulnerabilityto U.S. expansionism and imperialism, stands out as a particularlyuseful unit for comparative analysis. 2001 artículo científico 1405-2962 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=12801101 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=128 Revista Mexicana del Caribe application/pdf Universidad Autónoma Del Estado De Quintana Roo Revista Mexicana del Caribe (México) Num.11 Vol.VI
