Jiménez Montero Estudios Culturales conflict attitudes ecosystem efficiency agricultural Between January and March 2004, a survey was carried out amongst 169agriculturalists of the Northern Coclé province, with the aim of identifyingthe relationship between the management of agricultural-ecosystems, the quality of life of the agriculturalists and their attitude to the amplification project on the Panama Canal. It was found that 85.2% of the agriculturalists obtained annual earnings of less than 1 000 US dollars, with an average annual self consumption of 383.05 US dollars. The efficiency level in the use of thelabour force and also of land use showed values levels below the nationalaverage. Quality of life was also low in 82.3% of the cases and correlatedpositively with the efficiency levels and total income levels. The majorityof the agriculturalists of the northern region of Coclé have a negative attitude towards the extension project.
