  • A state science and technology indicator: use of intellectual property as a proxy for technological innovation Bruno Setton Gonçalves José Ricardo de Santana Administración y Contabilidad Indicator Economic space Technological region Science and Technology This article proposes the construction of a state indicator for science and technology (S&T), which allows analysis of regional dynamics in S&T infrastructure during the period 2000-2017. Ten variables were used for each of the 27 states to capture the efforts of the public and private sectors to build an S&T infrastructure capable of generating innovation. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to reduce the dimensions of the data and allow the identification of patterns and their expression such that their similarities and differences are highlighted. Two stages of development were identified to capture states’ ability to generate and assimilate innovation: one with a mature scientific and technological infrastructure and the second with a low level of scientific and technological development. This demonstrates the strong continued regional asymmetry between states and regions. 2021 artículo científico 1808-5792 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=133471070018 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1334/133471070018/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1334/133471070018/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1334/133471070018/133471070018.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1334/133471070018/movil https://doi.org/10.13037/gr.vol37n111.7301 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=1334 Gestão & Regionalidade application/pdf Universidade Municipal de São Caetano do Sul Gestão & Regionalidade (Brasil) Num.111 Vol.37
