  • Effect of distraction by using videogames in pain perception experimentally induced Kattia Cabas Hoyos Juan Sebastián Velásquez Garcés César Augusto Romero Barrios Isabel Cadavid Pérez Psicología videogames Distractions catastrophizing experimental pain Attention plays an important role in the perception of pain. To focus attention intensifies the experience of pain, while the distraction can decrease the subjective experience of it (Eccleston & Crombez, 1999). The present study explores the effect of distraction by a video game produced experimentally pain management. The present study explores the effect of distraction by a video in the game produced experimentally pain management. The design is repeated measures. The subjects involved in two consecutive immersions of Cold Pressor Test (CPT), as a method of experimental pain and were given two forms of distraction: Colored vs. Videogame. In the experiment participated healthy individuals (n = 36) whose ages were between 20 and 40 years old (M: 23.7; SD: 4.2). every participant completed a analogic visual scale (EVA), the threshold tolerance and estimated time was measured and was including catastrophe scale Sullivan - PCS, (Sullivan et al., 1995), given before and after of distraction. The effect of the experimental conditions was contrasted by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and catastrophism components by multivariate analysis (MANOVA). Participants reported a significant increase in pain tolerance threshold and when they were distracted by the game. Referent to cognitive strategies, some “catastrofismo” components down. The use of distraction would be useful to improve cognitive strategies involved in pain. Clinical implications of these findings are discussed. 2015 artículo científico 1909-8391 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=139044651008 es http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=1390 Tesis Psicológica application/pdf Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores Tesis Psicológica (Colombia) Num.1 Vol.10
