Evelyn Diez Martínez Silvia Miramontes Martín Sanchez Educación work Text books occupations economic literacy The main purpose of this study is that of calling attention on educational specialists on a theme scarily undertaken;that of knowledge that children receive about the functioning of social organization in relation to the world of work asan axe of social structural organization. The contents of students state primary school books (editions 1997,1998)were analyzed regarding an element of "economic literacy" that of the world of work and mainly occupations. Our datashow that information concerning these topics, is centered on knowledge about services, and technical activities andis presented mainly in the form of mentions, images and in a smaller degree by using descriptions. Data show acertain absence of a specific structure in the information about occupations through the different grades, since nosequence was observed in the variety or complexity of the occupations appearing in the total of the texts that wereanalyzed.
