Arlo Biere Jim MacMillan Jesús Barrón Hoyes Sergio Serna Estudios Agrarios Global agro-food industries rely on trust and cooperation in many areas including withinstitutions of higher learning in the areas of food and agriculture. Unfortunately, students offood and agriculture are less inclined to travel and engage in international experiences than areother students. For example, statistics on American exchange students show that agriculturalstudents, along with students in other technical fields, are among the least likely to engage ininternational educational experiences. This paper discusses a North American consortium topromote longer-term, international cooperation among six universities in the three NAFTAnations. Issues as well as mechanisms to advance student participation in internationalexperiences are considered.
