Scientists in the field of regenerative medicineand tissue engineering apply the principles of celltransplantation, material science, and bioengineeringto construct biological substitutes that will restore andmaintain normal functioning in diseased and injuredtissues. Therapeutic cloning, where the nucleus froma donor cell is transferred into an enucleated oocytein order to extract pluripotent embryonic stem cells, offers a potentially limitless source of cells for tissueengineering applications without immunologicalrejection. Also, the stem cell field is advancingrapidly, opening new options for therapy. This paperreviews recent advances in regenerative medicineand describes applications of these new technologieswhich may offer novel therapies for patients withend-stage organ failure. 2006 artículo científico 1405-7980 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=14280305 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=142 Investigación en Salud application/pdf Universidad de Guadalajara Investigación en Salud (México) Num.3 Vol.VIII
