contents Chilenos en Neuquén 1883-1930 Ariel Petruccelli Angel Cerutti Antropología 1884 1930 Chilean migrants Neuquén (Argentina) production activities This paper seeks to show that to describe the Chileans who settled in Neuquén (Argentina)between 1884 and 1930 as small cattle breeders is mistaken. I try to prove that the percentage of paidworkers on the farms and in other activities was high, totaling almost one third of the economicallyactive male population. Agricultural production was a main activity, not so much as a generator ofexcess resources, than as a means of covering the employment demand. Agriculture was also essentialto the livelihood of the farming families. The typical farming production was of a mixed nature, i.e.,agriculture addressing subsistence, while cattle breeding was aimed at the selling market. 2001 artículo científico 0325-6669 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=14802302 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=148 Scripta Ethnologica application/pdf Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) Scripta Ethnologica (Argentina) Vol.XXIII
