contents Postwar and Post-Cold War Generations of European Temporary Foreign Worker Policies: Implications from Spain Piotr Plewa Mark J. Miller Demografía Spain Germany inmigration policy international migration temporary foreign workers Although seasonal foreign worker admissions to Switzerland and France declined precipitouslyafter 1986, a new generation of post-Cold War temporary foreign worker policieshas emerged in the European Union. The new policies are quite modest. Germany admitsseveral hundred thousand seasonal workers each year. Spain admits 20,000 to 30,000workers, although most of them actually reside illegally in the country. Preliminary assessmentof Spain´s contingents of supposedly recruited foreign workers suggests that the newgeneration of temporary foreign worker policies went awry, as the postwar generation hadby 1973. Other working hypotheses derived from the "wisdom" of the postwar generationinclude the expectation that the new policies will result in significant, unexpectedsettlement, will undermine declared policies of controlling migration, and exacerbatebilateral relations between host and sending societies. 2005 artículo científico 1665-8906 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=15103203 es http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=151 Migraciones Internacionales application/pdf El Colegio de la Frontera Norte Migraciones Internacionales (México) Num.2 Vol.3
