A former construction worker with no formal education he chronicles the thoughts, anxieties and aspirations of a black Cuban constituency which rarely sees itself represented in their nation's poetry. In this paper I introduce his work paying special attention to his focus on the black Cuban mother and wider mother/ son relationships.
