contents Age of acquisition effects in word recognition and production in first and second languages Cristina Izura Andrew W. Ellis Psicología Four experiments explored the age of acquisition effects in the first andsecond languages of dominant Spanish-English bilinguals. In Experiment 1(picture naming task) and Experiment 2 (lexical decision task), an age ofacquisition effect was observed in a second language acquired after childhoodas well as in the first language. The results suggest that age of acquisitioneffects reflect the order of word acquisition, which may in turn reflect thestate of the lexical network when new words are learnt. The results do notsupport the idea that age of acquisition effects reflect differences betweenwords learned during some critical period in childhood and words learned laterin life. In Experiments 3 and 4, the age/order of second language acquisitionaffected lexical decision latencies regardless of the age at which translationequivalents were acquired in the first language, suggesting that the age ofacquisition effect is linked to the acquisition of word forms rather thanmeanings. 2002 artículo científico 0211-2159 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=16923204 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=169 Psicológica application/pdf Universitat de València Psicológica (España) Num.2 Vol.23
