- Approach to the Successful Selection of Antihypertensive Agents for the Patient with Atherosclerosis Manuel Velasco Edward Rojas Medicina Hypertension Atheroselerosis Calcium Channel Blockers Angiotensin Receptor Blockers Coronary heart disease (CHD) has become a medical and public health issue associated with multiple riskfactors such as age, diet and sedentary life style. Associations between hypertension and atheroselerosis have been extensively studied and several trials have demonstrated antiatheroselerotic properties in some of the most widely used antihypertensive agents. Hence, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers have been the target for a number of controIled randomized trials studying its effect on atheroselerosis progression. Carotid intima media thickness measurement by ultrasound is used as surrogate of atheroselerosis in most of this controlled trials. This review of the literature aims to summarize the most significant controlled trials involving antihypertensive therapy and atheroselerosis regression based on the carotid intima-media thickness measurement. 2010 artículo científico 1856-4550 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=170217049004 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=1702 Revista Latinoamericana de Hipertensión application/pdf Sociedad Latinoamericana de Hipertensión Revista Latinoamericana de Hipertensión (República Bolivariana de Venezuela) Num.4 Vol.5
