The pur po se of this study is that of gau ging the de -gree of rea da bi lity of this in for ma tion for pa tients which is ac -ces si ble on the Inter net in Spa nish.Met hods: A to tal of 112 web pages dea ling with se ven (7)chro nic di sea ses were se lec ted. Ba sed on the Mi cro soft Wordrea da bi lity sta tis tics, we re co ve red the data of the num ber ofsylla bles and sen ten ces in the first 100 words in each do cu -ment. For cal cu la ting rea da bi lity, we used the adap tation of theFlesch de gree for mu la for the Spa nish lan gua ge de vised byFer nán dez Huer ta.Re sults: The mean rea da bi lity of the do cu ments is 65.16 (±14.75), thus co rres pon ding to a stan dard le vel, in ot her words, athir teen-year-old?s rea ding le vel.Con clu sions: Although the rea da bi lity sco res found for thedo cu ments analy zed are good, they are not op ti mum for theusers sear ching for health-re la ted in for ma tion on the Inter net. Itis es sen tial that the se in for ma ti ve do cu ments be adap ted to the -se users? rea da bi lity le vel..
