A blatant paradox,as the freedom with which this theoretical and methodologicalbuilding would be erected was born precisely out of a lackof political freedom and freedom of thought of those dreadfulyears. Countering the official body of knowledge and also removedfrom all “protest” orthodoxy, a vivid, problematical reflectionof the society’s true situation conceived as criticaltheory took shape. It is in no way owing, as regards its assumptions, its findings or its formulations, to either English-U.S.. sociology, which was predominant at the time, or to that whichwould later progressively makes it way to us. Taking exceptionto data and the imaginary all-powerful importance thereof, thismethodology propounded a radical turnabout of the perspectiveof this research to focus on language, understood as the socialdiscourse, in the powerful sense of the word, and not as a mereset of statements, also moving away from the more or less subjectivistconceptions of the meaning. Opposing the body ofknowledge of this discipline, it construed research as a crossroads, undertaking an endless task, as it is impossible to completefrom a logical point of view. It then propounded listeningto the sense, which is never the same as the meaning, and includesthe analysis of the wording used for a full understandingthereof.... This is a totally autochthonous current perfectlywell-founded at its epistemological, methodological and technicallevels, the continuing survival today of which is morethan uncertain, as it dissolves into the body of university knowledge, into the ongoing flow of the quotes of authors, currentsand disciplines. It is corrupted in its commercial use, where itsdiscontinuance now seems assured in benefit of the marketingdiscourse, and it is running the risk of becoming completelyuseless in social areas of study (such as Health), where poorerEnglish-U.S. perspectives are coming into play without apparentlymeeting with the least critical opposition. 2002 artículo científico 1135-5727 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=17076502 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=170 Revista Española de Salud Pública application/pdf Ministerio de Sanidad Revista Española de Salud Pública (España) Num.5 Vol.76
