contents Bank cost efficiency as distribution dynamics: Controlling for specialization is important Emili Tortosa-Ausina Economía y Finanzas ciency Banking &#56353 e&#56256 product mix This paper analyzes the dynamics of cost eciency scores in the Spanishbanking industry during the 1985—1995 period and the way in which suchdynamics are influenced by specialization. Eciency is estimated by a nonparametricapproach, and a model of distribution dynamics has been appliedto assess the evolution of eciency scores over time. Results show that e-ciency at the industry level (mean eciency) has increased importantly andthat, considering how the entire distribution evolves, there are some importantpatterns that the mean and the standard deviation fail to uncover, suchas multi-modality. In addition, more light is shed on eciency dynamics wheneach firm’s output mix is controlled for, as eciency scores tend to becomecloser much faster. 2003 artículo científico 0210-1521 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=17327103 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=173 Investigaciones Económicas application/pdf Fundación SEPI Investigaciones Económicas (España) Num.1 Vol.XXVII
