contents ON THE DETERMINANTS OF CONVERGENCE AND DIVERGENCE PROCESSES IN SPAIN Leone Leonida Daniel Montolio Economía y Finanzas non convergence industrialisation factors of production parametric density estimation This paper studies the dynamics of convergence and divergence in Spain overthe period 1965-1995. We analyse the evolution of the per capita income distributionacross Spanish provinces and estimate the eects on this evolutionof factors such as private, human and public capital, and an industrialisationindex. We show that after a period of absolute convergence over the 1960sand early 1970s, the provinces polarised (club convergence) during the 1980s.This polarisation process preceded a period of divergence among clubs, whichbegan to appear during the 1990s. By estimating counterfactual densities, weshow that private capital accumulation and education at graduate level canaccount for a relevant fraction of the actual dispersion and polarisation ofincomes. We also find that public capital has reduced inequalities, especiallyin recent years, through redistribution of incomes rather than by increasingproductivity. 2004 artículo científico 0210-1521 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=17328104 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=173 Investigaciones Económicas application/pdf Fundación SEPI Investigaciones Económicas (España) Num.1 Vol.XXVIII
