Thispaper approaches the phenomenon from its origins until the present time. The first part thinksabout the antecedents (poles of the sixties) and the diffusion of the plans taking like referencethe american pattern. In the second part, given the proliferation of initiatives and real situa-tions, we propose a definition that is good to analyze the concept through new productivespaces as the PT, the incubator, the tecnopolo and the tecnópolis. Although they leave ofsimilar objectives, the experience to international scale is different.
