  • A critical appraisal of the scientific dominant approach to organizational justice Francisco R. B. Fonsêca Débora C. P. Dourado Administración y Contabilidad virtue Justice political value normative detachment organizational justice Purpose: This article outlines a critical assessment of the notion of justiceaccording to the social-scientific dominant approach to organizationaljustice (OJ). We argue that the detachment from prescriptivenotions of justice, advocated by the dominant approach to OJ, shrinksthe ideal of justice to a means at the disposal of organizations in pursuitof their interests.Originality/value: To trigger a critical discussion within the Brazilianacademy of business about the inherent instrumental and managerialmatters in the production of knowledge in the field of OJ. This workcontributes to an ideal reflection on OJ.Design/methodology/approach: This is a theoretical essay based on thearticulated consult and interpretation of bibliographic materials regardingthe hegemonic concept of OJ obtained through a literature review.Findings: A survey in the OJ literature reveals that the proponents ofsuch a dominant scientific-descriptive approach to justice in the workplacetake a dissociation stance from normative notions of justice. Indoing so, they favor a descriptive, subjective, functionalist, and positivistunderstanding of justice. Justice is deflated from its moral value tobecome an analytical-empirical category, understood as its instrumentalmanagerialfunction within the organizational structure. Mainstream OJstudies have nullified the normative ideal of justice by turning it into aresource servile to strategy and organizational performance. 2023 artículo científico 1518-6776 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=195474591003 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1954/195474591003/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1954/195474591003/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1954/195474591003/195474591003.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/1954/195474591003/movil 10.1590/1678-6971/eRAMG230214.en en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=1954 RAM.
