In the BasqueCountry, for example, where there area significant number of manufacturingcompanies, globalization, delocalizationand organizational change processeshave forced people to pay specialattention to innovation developmentand knowledge management asfoundations for increasing theircompetitive ability. This paper presents a studywhich, from an evolutional pointof view, provides an analysis of theinfl uence of the emphasis placed byBasque manufacturing companieson innovation for implementingmanagement systems that encouragethe generation of new knowledge. These management systems willbe consistent with the proposals byNonaka and Takeuchi (1995); Nonakaet al. This analysis started from an importantresearch project by doctors Aramburu,Saenz and Rivera at the Universityof Deusto in San Sebastian titled"Measuring organizational learningability and assessing its impact onthe fi nancial economic performanceof manufacturing companies in theBasque Country (2005). Since thebeginning of their research in 2002they have accomplished signifi cantdevelopments in sensitive issueswith regard to the managementenvironment". From a conceptual perspective thispaper is valuable in that it provides anevolutional review of the current effectof implementing novel managementconcepts such as those proposed byNonaka and his collaborators. The verification of the correlation of conceptssuch as spaces for refl ection, knowledgeexchange or vision and values withregard to the emphasis on innovationcontributes to the improvement of theanalysis of these concepts. The findings of this study show thatBasque manufacturing companiesthat focus on innovation tend to adoptsystems that foster organizationallearning and knowledge management. These systems enhance after companiesgo through a signifi cant changeprocess. Despite a comprehensivereview, this study does not provide acomparison of the fi nancial economicperformance of these companies. 2006 artículo científico 0123-5923 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=21210102 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/212/21210102/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/212/21210102/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/212/21210102/21210102.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/212/21210102/movil en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=212 Estudios Gerenciales application/pdf Universidad ICESI Estudios Gerenciales (Colombia) Num.101 Vol. 22
