| contents | Estrutura familiar e rendimentos do trabalho dos ricos Marcelo Medeiros Sociología rich elite wealth family structure social inequality Fair redistributive measures require better knowledge of who the rich are. Inorder to evaluate the extent to which individuals are rich because they enjoy adifferentiated family structure, this study tests three hypotheses concerninginequalities between the rich and the non-rich, relating the advantage of therich to: a peculiar demographic structure (fertility levels, position in the lifecycle, etc.); higher employment and greater yield of available labor(workforce participation and employment rates, length of workday); oroccupation of better positions in the work market (higher remuneration). Thehypothesis testing is based on a breakdown of families per capita income, using data from the Brazilian National Household Sample Surveys (PNADs)from 1997, 1998, and 1999. The results suggest that the existence of a wealthyelite in the country is explained mostly by inequalities in workersremuneration rather than by the populations demographic profile or by theworkforce participation and employment rates for workers from the variousfamilies. 2004 artículo científico 0011-5258 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=21847206 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=218 Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais application/pdf Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais (Brasil) Num.2 Vol.47 |
