contents Fundamentos da Economia, Mercado Financeiro e Intenção de Voto: As Eleições Presidenciais Brasileiras de 1994, 1998 e 2002 Lúcio Rennó Anthony P. Spanakos Sociología economic indicators election preferences Presidential elections This article explores the relationship between macroeconomic indicators, financial markets, and voting intentions in the 1994, 1998, and 2002 BrazilianPresidential elections. Several hypotheses concerning the relationshipbetween economic performance and politics were tested using a data setcontaining aggregate measures of self-reported preferences for thePresidential candidates and economic indicators (inflation, unemployment, exchange rate, C-Bond spread, and the São Paulo Stock Exchange Index). Thefirst hypothesis refers to the potential simultaneity between economicindicators and voting intentions. Other hypotheses relate to the varied impactof different economic indicators on the intention to vote for a specificPresidential candidate as opposed to others. The results indicate thatretrospective voting, based on the performance of economic fundamentals andnot the financial market, predominates in Brazil. 2006 artículo científico 0011-5258 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=21849102 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=218 Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais application/pdf Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais (Brasil) Num.1 Vol.49
