Based on archival material, the currentarticle outlines possible reasons for this decrease, considering hypotheseslinked to the international market of adoptable children, legal restrictions oninternational adoption imposed by the Brazilian government, and scandals inthe mass media that stigmatize local intermediaries and public officialsinvolved in this activity.
