contents Atividade e Vulnerabilidade: Quais os Arranjos Familiares em Risco? Marcelo Nicoll Lena Lavinas Sociología gender inequalities gender and work market feminization of poverty The purpose of this article is to compare different family models according tothe typology proposed by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography andStatistics, or National Census Bureau), to verify whether families headed bywomen really represent the most vulnerable or “at-risk” family arrangement. The latter is the commonsense notion that legitimizes the framework offeminization of poverty, in vogue in the last two decades and withconsiderable impact on the design of anti-poverty social policies. The currentempirical study disaggregates the employment data (employment rate, meanwages, workweek) not only by gender (identifying differences between menand women), but also breaking down the data for women, comparing thesituation of women heads-of-families versus wives. In terms of women’s fullparticipation in the work market, the effect of conjugality is even more harmfulthan motherhood (presence of children). 2006 artículo científico 0011-5258 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=21849104 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=218 Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais application/pdf Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais (Brasil) Num.1 Vol.49
