Ana Paula Tostes Sociología extreme right European Union collective identity European Constitution This article explores the reasons behind the fact that European institutionshave decided to establish a new Constitutional treaty, while portions of thenational societies have shown signs of resistance to it. The hypothesis is thatcauses similar to those involved in previous crises, like Maastricht, also helpexplain the current crisis, and that problems of supranational legitimizationshould also be elucidated by the analysis of transnational articulations in theregion.
