contents Max Weber, as Múltiplas Modernidades e a Reorientação da Teoria Sociológica Wolfgang Knöbl Sociología Max Weber social theory civilizations rise of the West Multiple Modernities The debate on “multiple modernities” has focussed till so far either on findingplausible contrasts between different paths into modernity or on theorizingconcepts like civilization, region etc. What is missing, however, is a systematicmethodological discussion of how to compare different civilizations in the faceof the so-called Small N-problem. This problem is the more pressing the betterhistorical-sociological research on Asia and Europe shows how contingent theso-called Rise of theWest actually was. The paper ends with some suggestionsabout the way how civilizational analysis could deal with thesemethodological problems and what sociological classics like Max Weber canteach us in this respect. 2006 artículo científico 0011-5258 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=21849302 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=218 Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais application/pdf Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais (Brasil) Num.3 Vol.49
