  • Relações Econômicas Internacionais, Isomorfismo Institucional e Democracia na América Latina. Explicando as Convergências (Inesperadas?) entre Uruguai, Brasil e Honduras Dawisson Belém Lopes Sociología democracy institutions Latin America Along this article, we sought to apprehend the logic underlying the triangularrelation between international economic powers, structural reforms of theState, and democracy in Latin America. The study is based on the findingsexpressed in the Report on “A Democracia na América Latina: Rumo a umaDemocracia de Cidadãs e Cidadãos” [“Democracy in Latin America: towards aDemocracy of Female and Male Citizens”] (PNUD, 2004). The data subject toscrutiny refer to three States –Uruguay, Brazil and Honduras. Two hypotheseshave been tested: (1) structural reforms of the State in Latin America have beenconditioned by the dynamics of the international economy; and (2) thedemocracy that is possible in Latin America is a formalist democracy, and itdoes not inhibit the rational choice of market oriented economic agents. Theconclusions of this work are discussed in the light of political theories andinternational relations. 2007 artículo científico 0011-5258 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=21850306 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=218 Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais application/pdf Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais (Brasil) Num.3 Vol.50
