  • DROPOUT PREDICTORS FOR VOLUNTEERS IN NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS: A 7-YEAR SURVIVAL ANALYSIS MARÍA L. VECINA FERNANDO CHACÓN Psicología unpaid presocial engagement abandonment longitudinal Th is study focused on sustained volunteerism and examined potential dropout predictors because vol- unteerism is, by defi nition, a sustained helping behavior and because volunteers’ dropout has organizational and social negative repercussions. Th irteen potential predic- tors from diff erent theories and models were included in a survival analysis, using a sample of 700 volunteers. Results indicated that, controlling for age and sex, the probability of dropping out is lower among volunteers who have developed a strong volunteer identity, have a greater degree of organizational commitment, and do not have satisfi ed their career motivation. In parallel, they tend to dedicate more hours per week to volunteering yet spend less time commuting to the organization. In light of these results, some management strategies can be drawn.
