contents Work schedule influence on sleep habits in elementary and high school teachers according to chronotype Jane Carla de Souza Sabinne Danielle Galina Jônathas Cleiton Florêncio de Almeida Ivanise Cortez de Sousa Carolina Virginia Macêdo de Azevedo Psicología teacher chronotype sleepiness work schedule sleep quality The influence of work schedule on sleep habits and quality, and daytime sleepiness according to individual preferencesin sleep schedules was assessed in 131 elementary and highschool teachers through questionnaires. Teachers whoinitiate classes around 7:00 hr wake up earlier and show more frequency of poor sleep quality than those who startclasses in the afternoon. Between them, those who have a preference for intermediate or later hours for sleep are moreirregular in their wake up schedules and increase their sleepduration on the weekend compared to those with earliersleep preferences. On the other hand, working only in the afternoon seems to providebetter sleep/awake conditionsfor teachers, because they keep the same sleep durationduring the week and on the weekend, and they are diagnosedwith less daytime sleepiness. Therefore, the discussion of school start times, originally proposed for adolescents, ne-eds to be magnified to teachers, contributing to improvement of sleep habits and life quality in school environments. 2014 artículo científico 1413-294X https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=26132911005 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=261 Estudos de Psicologia application/pdf Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte Estudos de Psicologia (Brasil) Num.3 Vol.19
