| contents | VULNERABILITIES, RISKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE IN A MACRO METROPOLITAN SCALE Katia Canil Rodolfo Baêsso Moura Samia Nascimento Sulaiman Pedro Henrique Campello Torres Anna Luisa Abreu Netto Pedro Roberto Jacobi Ciencias de la Tierra Risks Vulnerability Environmental Justice São Paulo Macrometropolis The historical process of socio-spatial (dis)organization and the dynamics of the Paulista Macrometropolis (MMP) present a great diversity of situations of urban environmental risks, understood as “dysfunctions” with the potential to generate processes that cause loss and damage to people, surrounding goods and infrastructures. The social construction of risks, linked to the unsustainable management of the urban environment, has, on its most perverse face, the proliferation and perpetuation of vulnerable groups situations of exclusion, victims of socio-spatial segregation that restrict the poorest populations to valley floors, floodplains and the steepest slopes.
