Naipaul’s “An Area of Darkness” VENKANNA NUKAPANGU Política India diaspora S Naipaul Commonwealth Diaspora novels have brought a new sensation on the literary horizon painting their works of arts with multicultural colors. Naipaul wrote three indian travelogues on India. The major theme of the novel is alienation and isolation. It records the failure of his attempt to settle in India. In this novel, Naipaul began a painful confrontation with the civilization that nurtured him in his earliest years, and which marked him as a kind of resident alien in the west. An Area of Darkness was frankly personal.
