In the academic Ibero-American milieu, the interest in studying the development of the Nation-state in order to find possible parallelisms on both sides of the Atlantic has also been rather limited. This paper reconstructs the perspectives that have hampered such an encounter of historiographycal regards. It assumes that the making of a liberal order was not such a dissimilar task in Spanish America and in the Iberian peninsula as it is usually thought. For this purpose the article analyses the fragmenting effect of the Cadiz Constitution of 1812 on the political structures of the Spanish Empire, reassesses the political languages used to legitimate the Latin-American emancipation and tries to identify the cultural and political legacy of the Hispanic liberal traditions. 2001 artículo científico 1575-6823 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=28200601 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=282 Araucaria.
