contents Alexis de Tocqueville: opinión pública y declinación del discurso revolucionario Ezequiel B. Sirlin Historia This paper´s goal is to rebuild Tocqueville´s vision which, in his works, appears as fragments: how the mechanisms of public opinion in democratic societies weaken the spreading of revolutionary doctrines. Among other visions, Tocqueville anticipated that the multiplication of voices would weaken the weight of individual voices, and that this abundance of opinions would restrain the transforming power of radical opinions. Tocqueville anticipated the decline of intellectual minds capable of great changes, but probably because this prophecy was dispersed and subsequent to other subjects, scholars have overlooked it. Tocqueville foresaw the end of revolutionary discourses in the future of democratic societies. The multiplication of cultural agents and publications, all in an equal basis, would lead to such effacement of intellectual authorities that even the cultural development would be hard to follow. Tocqueville´s speculations about the public opinion and the cultural movements in future democracies bear a sense that hasn´t been properly valued by the critics: The premonition of a "polifonism". The multiplication phenomenon would dissolve the intellectual figures, neutralizing the ruling power that the revolutionary discourse had had in aristocratic societies like the French. 2001 artículo científico 1575-6823 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=28200603 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=282 Araucaria.
