  • Is it human mind attuned with general ecological principles? Víctor Corral-Verdugo Fernanda Inéz García-Vázquez Blanca Fraijo-Sing César Tapia-Fonllem Psicología sustainability human attunement sustainable behavior Ecological principles Some scholars claim t hat similarities exist be tween human co mmuniti es and ecosystems; al so, that pe ople can l earn how to live sustainably f rom knowing the way ecos ystems work . Yet, at the psychological level, the relationship between practicing sustainabl e behaviors and living in accordanc e with ecological principles ha s bee n barely studie d. This article addresses such relationship, testing t he idea that ac ting in accordance with eco logical principles requires 1) a knowledge of eco logical rules, 2) an affinity toward s those rules, a nd 3) behaving accordingly (i.e ., acting sustainably) . We call this hypothetical construct the Human Attunement with E cological Principles (HAEP), assuming tha t it implies t he presence of a hum an predisposition to knowing , valuing and applying these principles. In developing the idea, the paper reviews relevant literature, aiming to find ev iden ce that sup port s the H AEP hy pothesis, and present s results of a study showing that HAEP signif icantly a nd sal iently predicts engagement in sustainable behaviors. 2017 artículo científico 0034-9690 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=28455448009 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=284 Revista Interamericana de Psicología/Interamerican Journal of Psychology application/pdf Sociedad Interamericana de Psicología Revista Interamericana de Psicología/Interamerican Journal of Psychology (Puerto Rico) Num.3 Vol.51
