To narrow the scope of the research, the language of investment banking will be discussed in depth. Investment banking is a developing domain within the sphere of banking and finance. Newly-created products and services may be complicated for inexperienced investors, thus their names should sound familiar and explain the purpose of a given entity by referring to some well-known concepts. In this case, metaphors play a crucial role. The aim of this paper is to discuss some metaphorical names in investment banking communication. The area of mergers and acquisitions is studied in great detail because of its metaphorical character. The compiled corpus will be investigated by taking intoconsideration the following languages: English, German, Spanish and Polish. The aim of this linguistic distinction is to show differences as well as similarities in the investment banking lexicon in the above-mentioned languages.
