contents Evaluation of psychoneuroimmunological interactions in HIV infected patients JL Fonseca Simões da Silvia Ouakinin Psicología HIV infection Psychological factors HIV Infection has a wide clinical andprognostic variability, apparently dependingon biological, psychological and psychosocialdeterminants, personal or contextualones, and therefore can be a privilegedfield for research of the psychoneuroimmunologicalinteractions. The objective of this study is to evaluatesome of the referred interactions, in asample of 55 HIV1 positive patients and30 healthy control subjects (N = 85).Comparison between groups (t test)showed that patients exhibit a statisticallysignificant greater emotional distress thancontrols, as well as an impairment in theirquality of life. In medically stable andunstable patient groups, correlations betweendifferent level variables (Pearsoncorrelations) showed psychoimmunologicalrelationships which were apparentlymore clear in patients who will suffer aslower disease progression. These patientscan be distinguished from the others withstatistical significance, by levels of anxiety, depression, obsession/compulsion andsleep disturbance, as well as by the immunecell activation marker, CD25. Multipleregression analysis, using immunevariables as dependent ones, confirms theimportance of dimensions such as hostility, anxiety and stressors in determiningimmune variability. In conclusion, we have found suggestiveevidence relating the psychologicalfactors and the immune response in HIVInfection. 2002 artículo científico 0874-4696 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=28740113 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=287 Revista Portuguesa de Psicossomática application/pdf Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicossomática Revista Portuguesa de Psicossomática (Portugal) Num.1 Vol.4
