Th e article presents the justification of the study, the objectives, its methodological and epistemological foundations, the instruments used and the techniques of analysis applied. The study combines qualitative and quantitative techniques for obtaining and analysing the data, within the framework of the mixed methodology. Data collection techniques included: questionnaires (n=1709 students) in 30 schools of different socioeconomic and cultural realities of Catalonia; Semi - structured interviews (n = 18) to s tudents from 11 representative schools of the previous sample; Semi - structured interviews with teachers (n = 10); Three quasi - experimental studies were applied with a control group in the field of Teaching and Learning Social Sciences in 10 schools and, in order to contextualize the research, the study is complemented with the documentary analysis of the educational law that defines the school curriculum, as well as the analysis of textbooks of the most used publishers in Catalonia . 2017 artículo científico 2014-3575 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=317149902001 es http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3171 Revista Internacional de Sociología de la Educación application/pdf Hipatia Press Revista Internacional de Sociología de la Educación (España) Num.1 Vol.6
