In this research, we discuss the process by which consumers attach their identity to commercial settings, based on the extended self and place attachment theories. Through observations, in-depth interviews, and discourse analysis, this study explores the bonds people make with a place, taking a Brazilian heritage market as a research context. The findings suggest that the link between consumers’ identities and commercial settings occurs in different forms, based not only on their self-narratives but also on the physical space. 2020 artículo científico 1679-3951 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=323264934014 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3232/323264934014/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3232/323264934014/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3232/323264934014/323264934014.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3232/323264934014/movil 10.1590/1679-395120190151x en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3232 Cadernos EBAPE.BR application/pdf Fundação Getulio Vargas Cadernos EBAPE.BR (Brasil) Num.3 Vol.18
