- Student and parental perception about physical activity in children and adolescents J.P.A. Greca G.A. Arruda D.C. Coledam R. Pires Junior M. Teixeira A.R. Oliveira Medicina Health Adolescent Sedentary lifestyle Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the association between physical activity levels of childrenand adolescents and the perception of their parents or guardians regarding physical activity of theirchildren.Method: A total of 306 subjects, aged eight to eighteen years, living in a city in southern Brazil, participatedin the study. The physical activity of schoolchildren was measured using the Physical Activity Questionnairefor Children. The Chi-squared test examined possible associations between the independentand dependent variables. Poisson regression was used to calculate the prevalence ratio and confidenceintervals of 95%.Results: The prevalence of schoolchildren who were insufficiently physically active was 86.6%. Theincidence of physically active schoolchildren was lower in females. Both the children who perceivedthemselves as more physically active than their peers and those with guardians who perceived them asactive, were more active. Conclusions: Intervention programs to promote physical activity in schoolchildren should consider theperception of the schoolchildren and their parents. 2016 artículo científico 1888-7546 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=323344442004 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3233 Revista Andaluza de Medicina del Deporte application/pdf Junta de Andalucía Revista Andaluza de Medicina del Deporte (España) Num.1 Vol.9
