contents Physiopathological modulators of amyloid aggregation and novel pharmacological approaches in Alzheimer’s disease Fernanda G. Defelice Sérgio T. Ferreira Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) A&#946 peptide aggregation neurotoxicity Alzheimer’s disease The biological mechanisms underlying the neuropathology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are complex, asseveral factors likely contribute to the development of the disease. Therefore, it is not surprising that anumber of different possible therapeutic approaches addressing distinct aspects of this disease are currentlybeing investigated. Among these are ways to prevent amyloid aggregation and/or deposition, to preventneuronal degeneration, and to increase brain neurotransmitter levels. Here, we discuss possible roles ofendogenous modulators ofAβ aggregation in the physiopathology ofAD and some of the strategies currentlyunder consideration to interfere with brain levels of β-amyloid, its aggregation and neurotoxicity. 2002 artículo científico 0001-3765 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=32774206 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=327 Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências application/pdf Academia Brasileira de Ciências Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (Brasil) Num.2 Vol.74
