Mandarim-de-Lacerda Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) disector stereology morphometry fractionator volume density Stereological studies are more and more frequent in literature, particularly in the development/evolution,pathology, and neurosciences areas. The stereology challenge is to understand the structural inner threedimensionalarrangement based on the analysis of the structure slices only showing two-dimensional information.Cavalieri and Scherles methods to estimate volume, and Buffons needle problem, are commentedin the stereological context. A group of actions is needed to appropriately quantify morphological structures(unbiased and reproducibly), e.g. sampling, isotropic and uniform randomly sections (Delesses principle),and updated stereological tools (disector, fractionator, nucleator, etc). Through the correct stereology use,a quantitative study with little effort could be performed: efficiency in stereology means a minimum slicessample counting (little work), low cost (slices preparation), but good accuracy. In the present text, a shortreview of the main stereological tools is done as a background basis to non-expert scientists. 2003 artículo científico 0001-3765 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=32775406 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=327 Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências application/pdf Academia Brasileira de Ciências Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (Brasil) Num.4 Vol.75 |
