  • Haematophagous arthropod saliva and host defense system: a tale of tear and blood Clarissa R. Teixeira Aldina Barral Manoel Barral-Netto Bruno B. Andrade Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) host bites saliva vector infection The saliva from blood-feeding arthropod vectors is enriched with molecules that display diverse functions thatmediate a successful blood meal. They function not only as weapons against host’s haemostatic, inflammatoryand immune responses but also as important tools to pathogen establishment. Parasites, virus and bacteriataking advantage of vectors’ armament have adapted to facilitate their entry in the host. Today, many salivarymolecules have been identified and characterized as new targets to the development of future vaccines. Herewe focus on current information on vector’s saliva and the molecules responsible to modify host’s hemostasisand immune response, also regarding their role in disease transmission. 2005 artículo científico 0001-3765 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=32777408 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=327 Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências application/pdf Academia Brasileira de Ciências Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (Brasil) Num.4 Vol.77
