Farah Sergio Schenkman Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) protein structure structural genomics protein crystallography nuclear magnetic resonance This article describes the achievements of the Structural Molecular Biology Network (SMolBNet), a collaborativeprogram of structural molecular biology, centered in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, and supportedby São Paulo State Funding Agency (FAPESP). It gathers twenty scientific groups and is coordinated bythe scientific staff of the Center of Structural Molecular Biology, at the National Laboratory of SynchrotronLight (LNLS), in Campinas. The SMolBNet program has been aimed at 1) solving the structure of proteinsof interest related to the research projects of the groups. In some cases, the choice has been to selectproteins of unknown function or of possible novel structure obtained from the sequenced genomes of theFAPESP genomic program; 2) providing the groups with training in all the steps of the protein structuredetermination: gene cloning, protein expression, protein purification, protein crystallization and structuredetermination. Having begun in 2001, the program has been successful in both aims. Here, four groupsreveal their participation in the program and describe the structural aspects of the proteins they have selectedto study. 2006 artículo científico 0001-3765 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=32778206 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=327 Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências application/pdf Academia Brasileira de Ciências Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (Brasil) Num.2 Vol.78
