contents Some topics on geochemistry of weathering: a review Milton L. L. Formoso Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) chemical weathering biological weathering hydrolysis of silicates physicochemical parameters of weathering Weathering is a complex process comprising physical disaggregation, chemical and biologicaldecomposition of rocks and minerals transforming complex structure minerals in simpler ones.Hydrolysis of silicates is perhaps the most important process but associated certainly to biologicalweathering. It is discussed the role ofwaters: activities/concentrations of chemical species, pH, Eh,importance of complexes. Weathering is not only a destructive process. It can concentrate chemicalspecies and form mineral deposits (kaolin, bauxite, Fe, Mn, P, Nb, Au). Weathering studies areimportant in pedology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, paleoclimatology and ecology. Theuse of stonemeal is based upon the study of rock weathering. 2006 artículo científico 0001-3765 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=32778414 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=327 Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências application/pdf Academia Brasileira de Ciências Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (Brasil) Num.4 Vol.78
