Uchida David Araújo Geraldo Busatto José A. S. Crippa Fábio L. S. Duran Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) manual volumetry voxel based morphometry magnetic resonance imaging This is a comparative study between manual volumetry (MV) and voxel based morphometry (VBM) as methods ofevaluating the volume of brain structures in magnetic resonance images. The volumes of the hippocampus and theamygdala of 16 panic disorder patients and 16 healthy controls measured throughMVwere correlated with the volumesof gray matter estimated by optimized modulated VBM. The chosen structures are composed almost exclusively ofgray matter. Using a 4 mm Gaussian filter, statistically significant clusters were found bilaterally in the hippocampusand in the right amygdala in the statistical parametric map correlating with the respective manual volume. With theconventional 12 mm filter, a significant correlation was found only for the right hippocampus. Therefore, narrow filtersincrease the sensitivity of the correlation procedure, especially when small brain structures are analyzed. The twotechniques seem to consistently measure structural volume. 2008 artículo científico 0001-3765 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=32780110 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=327 Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências application/pdf Academia Brasileira de Ciências Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (Brasil) Num.1 Vol.80
