contents Everyday and Mathematical Language 100. Years After the Publication of ¿On Denoting¿ by Bertrand Russell Giorgio T. Bagni Educación truth meaning Language validity rationality The article “On denoting” by B. Russell, published in 1905, is a milestone in philosophicalreflection on language. In the present paper, we examine pupils’ reactions both to asentence inspired by a celebrated example introduced by Russell and to a statementexpressed in mathematical language. We move away from an interpretation ofexperimental data confined to the classical concepts of truth and rationality and proposeinstead some reflections that shift “the standard of epistemic objectivity from the privatecertainty of an experiencing subject to the public practice of justification within acommunicative community” (J. Habermas). We conclude that language is a very importantmoment in which the meaning of an expression is fixed, but we keep in mind that“language, like any other semiotic system, functions inside a cultural network ofsignifications” (L. Radford). 2006 artículo científico 1665-2436 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=33509912 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=335 Revista Latinoamericana de Investigación en Matemática Educativa, RELIME application/pdf Colegio Mexicano de Matemática Educativa A.
