contents Delayed Esophageal Perforation after Anterior Cervical Spine Fixation: Case Report and Literature Review Ileana Rocío Bautista-Parada Ángel Rojas-Espinosa Andrés Sánchez-Gil Alberto Ángel-Pinzón Medicina spine cervical Esophageal perforation The anterior approach to cervical spine surgery can cause esophageal injuries; however, it is an infrequent complication with a 0.02-0.25% prevalence. It usually appears in two high-risk areas: Killian’s dehiscence and the thyrohyoid membrane. Delayed esophageal perforations typically occur due to chronic friction and usually have a benign course. Most cases of late migration occur in the first 18 months of the surgical procedure, and the clinical manifestation varies between asymptomatic patients in the case of delayed perforations and patients with dysphagia, subcutaneous emphysema, and sepsis in the case of acute perforations. 2024 otro 0120-9957 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=337782277013 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3377/337782277013/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3377/337782277013/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3377/337782277013/337782277013.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3377/337782277013/movil 10.22516/25007440.1025 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3377 Revista Colombiana de Gastroenterología application/pdf Asociación Colombiana de Gastroenterologia Revista Colombiana de Gastroenterología (Colombia) Num.1 Vol.39
