contents Changing Epistemic Beliefs? An Exploratory Study of Cognition Among Prospective History Teacher Bruce VanSledright Kimberly Reddy Historia Keywords History Teaching Epistemic Knowledge Historical Thinking Prospective Teachers This study explores changing epistemic beliefs in the history domain among 18 prospective history teachers. Drawing data from these college undergraduate history majors who were considering teaching careers, the study traces out an exploration of how epist emic beliefs may change at this crucial developmental point. A likert - scale instrument served as a primary data - gathering tool and it was administered in a pre - post, design. Observational and interview data augmented the scale data. A university - based co urse served as an educational vehicle designed to influence epistemic beliefs. The results among the prospective teachers were mixed. Some students’ epistemic beliefs remained unaffected by the course, while others changed, some quite dramatically. Reas ons for varied influences are the subject of the discussion. Implications of the results are also considered. 2014 artículo científico 2175-1803 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=338131531003 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3381/338131531003/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3381/338131531003/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3381/338131531003/338131531003.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/3381/338131531003/movil en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3381 Revista Tempo e Argumento application/pdf Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina Revista Tempo e Argumento (Brasil) Num.11 Vol.6
