- Extranjería, protestantismo e Inquisición: presencia inglesa y francesa durante el establecimiento formal de la Inquisición en Nueva España LOURDES DE ITA RUBIO Historia imaginary otherness Foreigners collective Lutheranism In this essay I discuss the relationship among foreignness, Protestantism and the formal establishment of the Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition in New Spain in the complex geopolitical context of the 16th century, when the Anglo-Spanish and French-Spanish relationships had been deteriorating. I consider some English and French incursions into New Spain during the 1560s and the early 1570s.
